What is a corset
A corset is a garment worn to shape and support the waist and upper body. Historically, corsets were mainly worn to give the body a certain shape, such as a narrow waist and an accentuated bust and hips. They became popular in different periods of history, such as the Victorian era.
A traditional corset consists of a tight and sturdy construction of fabric and/or leather, often equipped with boning (sturdy strips) of metal or plastic, which are inserted into the corset to provide structure and support. Corsets can be fastened with laces or hooks and eyes at the back, making it possible to tighten or loosen the corset depending on the desired fit.
In the past, corsets were sometimes worn to create a fashionable hourglass shape by narrowing the waist and making the bust and hips appear wider. However, this was often at the expense of the wearer's comfort and mobility, as corsets could be very tight and restrictive.
Today, corsets are worn less often as everyday clothing, but they still have a place in fashion and are sometimes used for special occasions or as part of certain costumes. Modern corsets can range from more comfortable designs to more lavish and decorative styles, depending on the wearer's purpose and fashion preferences.
