What is an anal douche?

With an anal douche you rinse your rectum with water so that it is clean. This is usually done in preparation for anal sex.

Other words are 'colon irrigation', 'enema', or 'colon irrigation'.

How to use an anal douche

There are several methods for anal douching. You can rinse with a hand pump that you fill with water. Some sex shops sell special attachments to attach to your shower hose . You can also buy an enema at the pharmacy.

Follow these steps:

  • First, relieve yourself.
  • Wash your hands and make sure your equipment is clean.
  • Sit in a squatting position. Slide the nozzle of the hose or bottle 2 or 3 centimeters into the anus. Let the water slowly flow in.
  • Stop when your rectum feels full. About 1 to 2 cups of water is enough. Then remove the spout from the anus and keep the water.
  • After 5 to 20 minutes you will feel like you need to go to the toilet. Sit on the toilet and relax. Do not push. The water will flow out by itself.

What should you pay attention to when using an anal douche?

When douching, it is best to take precautions:

  • Never use objects that can damage your anus or rectum (such as a bottle with a sharp edge).
  • Do not spray too much water inside and do not set the water pressure too high.
  • Stop immediately if you get a stomach ache.
  • Use lukewarm water (at body temperature, or 37°C).
  • Do not add anything to the water (such as soap, oil, chemical products, laxatives...). This will damage the intestinal mucosa.
  • Rinse at least 45 minutes before having sex. This will prevent any water from leaking out of your anus during sex.
  • Never use or share someone else's instrument. Otherwise, you or your partner are at risk of hepatitis C.
  • Do not rinse if you have heart problems or an irregular heartbeat.
  • Never perform a colonic on someone who is hanging upside down. It is very painful and dangerous.
  • Do not rinse too often. This disrupts the intestinal flora and increases the risk of infections.
